Apple’s 20th Anniversary iPhone Could Finally Ditch The Dynamic Island For A Stunning All-Screen Design With Glass Melting Over All Four Sides, But It Will Be Done In Stages

20th anniversary iPhone to feature an all screen design without a Dynamic Island

Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone is reported to feature an all-screen design with the glass melting on all four sides of the display. However, we have heard mixed details on the device recently, with a prominent display analyst giving us a rough estimate and a timeline for when the changes will take effect in the coming years. It is now being reported that Apple is moving to an all-screen design in two stages.

Apple is reportedly phasing out the Dynamic Island, aiming for a true edge-to-edge display

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman writes that Apple will gradually move to an all-screen iPhone. He believes that Apple will make the size of the Dynamic Island smaller next year, a change that has been in the rumor mill for a while. The company could do this by masking some of the Face ID sensors under the display, leaving room for the front camera in a smaller yet packed Dynamic Island.

The second portion of the company's attempts will be in 2027, when Apple will release the 20th anniversary iPhone with an all-screen design. It remains to be seen how the company will implement this approach. We are unsure whether the 20th anniversary iPhone will feature an even smaller Dynamic Island or the same as next year's iPhone models. Given how the company plans to radically redesign the 20th anniversary iPhone, an all-screen approach should be part of the deal.

Gurman previously speculated that Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone would be quite special in terms of design, and one of the major aspects of the design was an intrusion-free display. He stated that the device would have curved glass, with little to no bezels and a truly edge-to-edge display without any cutouts on the front. The news of an all-screen iPhone received quite a bit of traction, and it seems that the analyst is taking away the hype once again.

For an all-screen design to take shape, Apple must shift all of the Face ID sensors under the display, including the front-facing camera. The Information’s Wayne Ma previously stated that the iPhone 18 Pro, expected to launch next year, will feature an in-display Face ID setup. The single circular cutout situated on the left side of the display will house the front-facing camera. This means that the iPhone 18 Pro will not have a pill-shaped Dynamic Island on the front.

While the exact details remain scarce at this stage, we believe that the Dynamic Island will get smaller before Apple completely removes it. If Apple makes it smaller, it will keep it for a year or two before completely eliminating its existence. This notion contradicts the 20th anniversary iPhone's all-screen design, as stated by Gurman in prior reports. We will keep you posted with the latest details, so be sure to keep an eye out.
