AMD Rumored To Launch Ryzen 9000G APUs In Q4 2025; Strix Point Coming To Desktop? 1

There is very little to support the rumor, but considering there are no updates on the Ryzen 9000G, the APU series may get delayed in favor of a refreshed Phoenix Point.

AMD Rumored to Refresh Ryzen 8000G for AM5 Platform, Which Indicates a Delayed Zen 5 APU Series Launch

The Zen 5-based Ryzen APU lineup is allegedly delayed, or it is not coming before AMD releases yet another Zen 4-based APU series for the AM5 platform. AMD's Phoenix Point Ryzen 8000G lineup is rumoredly to be getting a refresh as per the report by a leaker on Chiphell forums. While we can't confirm this report, we have hardly seen solid updates in the past weeks and months when it comes to the Ryzen 9000G, which are supposedly succeeding the 8000G series.

As per the leaker, AMD will be releasing a refresh of the 8000G series, which means another Zen 4-based APU series with RDNA 3-based integrated graphics. We don't know what naming convention this refresh lineup will take, but it could be Ryzen 9000G. In case it's the Ryzen 9000G, the Zen 5-based APU series could be named under the Ryzen 10000G, but we will wait for more reliable reports.

Nonetheless, the AMD desktop platform will likely trail behind the mobile platform for longer, which has already received the strongest APUs of all time at the beginning of this year. Strix Halo is far ahead in terms of graphical performance than Ryzen 8000G and even the Strix Point, which is supposedly going to be converted to the Zen 5 APU series for desktop, often known as Gorgon Point.

That means the Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 architecture combo will have to wait for some more time before ending up on the desktop. We don't know if AMD has any plans to release the Gorgon Point this year, but it's already the second half of 2025, and if AMD releases an 8000G Refresh, we probably won't see the Zen5-RDNA 3.5-based desktop APUs before next year.

That said, the refreshed Ryzen 8000G should bring slightly higher clocks and therefore, better performance in both CPU and iGPU departments, but don't expect them to compete with the Radeon 880M/890M. They should bring somewhat better performance than RDNA 3 iGPUs, such as the Radeon 780M, but won't likely replace the current-gen budget graphics cards on desktops.
