More evidence of RDNA 3.5-based APUs for AM5 is surfacing online, and this one suggests that AMD might release up to 12-core Zen 5 APUs on AM5.

AGESA BIOS 1.2.7.0 Firmware Reveals AMD May Release Strix Point APUs for AM5, Bringing 12-Core/24-Thread APUs to Desktop

Very recently, we posted about AGESA BIOS 1.2.7.0 getting readied to support AMD Krackan Point APUs on the AM5 platform, but many were expecting AMD to bring a stronger Strix Point APU family to the desktop. Since Krackan Point doesn't compete with either the CPU or the Graphical prowess of the Strix Point chips, having only budget/entry-level RDNA 3.5-based iGPUs for gaming won't suffice for gaming needs.

Even the flagship Radeon 890M on the Strix Point struggles to maintain good performance in modern games, and if we cannot even have such a performance on the desktop, we won't be seeing a huge upgrade over the Phoenix Point family, aka Ryzen 8000G. Thankfully, we are likely going to see AMD releasing the Strix Point to the AM5 platform as per what has been reported by reliable leakers like @9550pro.

The leaker posted his findings on X, revealing that AMD is reportedly preparing "STRIX," as can be seen on the Hex Editor screenshot, which shows details of the AMD BIOS/UEFI binary file. Another user @xgfancz confirmed the same by posting screenshots of the AGESA 1.2.0.3g/1.2.7.0 firmware structure using UEFITool. We can see that both Raphael (RPL) and Phoenix (PHX) are also mentioned, and then we have the "STX" as well. This is possibly a strong indication that we might see AMD Strix Point on the AM5 platform very soon.

This isn't the first time we have heard about such reports, but in March this year, we posted a similar report, which suggested that Ryzen 9000G, aka Zen 5 APUs, will be released in Q4 2025. We are already in the fourth quarter, and it seems that we may see several variants of Zen 5-based APUs, which should include as small as a 6-core/12-thread SKU and as big as a 12-core/24-thread SKU.
