Team Red is positioning itself in the AI markets to become much more competitive compared to where the firm was in the past few quarters. AMD implemented radical business changes, such as unifying its data center and consumer GPU architectures and scaling up its AI business by collaborating with the likes of Samsung, Microsoft, and Oracle.
While the firm is still significantly behind the likes of NVIDIA, AMD's trajectory is clearly bullish as KeyBanc's analyst John Vinh (via Benzinga) claims that the firm is set to ship out half a million units of their flagship AI accelerators this year alone.
AMD's data center business hasn't been booming lately, given that the firm has been a victim of a monopolized market, but Team Red is still giving tough competition to alternatives out there. Of all the product offerings, AMD's Instinct MI300X has been a standout option for clients in the industry, mainly since the accelerator is equipped with immense capabilities, and the performance per dollar it brings onboard is much higher compared to alternatives within the same lineup. Several companies, such as Lenovo, have appreciated the Instinct MI300X AI accelerator in terms of its market contribution, which has ultimately translated into more business for AMD.
Apart from this, the analyst also claims that the upcoming "Advancing AI" event is set to reshape AMD's AI business, since the firm is expected to unveil new architectures, and showcase its plans for the future, which will likely increase the competition in the industry. AMD will unveil their mid-tier Instinct MI325X AI GPU, along with the new range of 5th Gen EPYC CPUs and much more, so it is an occasion that shouldn't be overlooked at all.
With the Instinct MI300X AI accelerators bringing in business for AMD, it will be interesting to see how the firm's next-gen AI lineup manages to attract customers from the industry, given that AMD's CEO Lisa Su believes that the AI supercycle has just started and that there is still room for more players to capitalize on the hype. While AMD still has a long way to catch up with its arch-rival NVIDIA, the way Team Red has approached, the markets show that they are growing sustainably, creating a business framework that would have a successful implementation moving into the future.
