While AMD hasn't announced Dragon Range Refresh CPUs, it's likely that these will be released soon for high-performance laptops.
AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX to Feature 100MHz higher Than 7940HX: ROG Laptop With 8940HX Listed at 13,999 Yuan
There isn't much info regarding the Ryzen 8000HX series, aka Dragon Range Refresh CPUs. AMD hasn't yet announced the series yet and most of the reports were based on small leaks and rumors. However, today the series was confirmed by two different leaks. In both leaks, the processor model Ryzen 9 8940HX is common.
The AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX succeeds the Ryzen 9 7940HX from the Dragon Range series based on the Zen 4 architecture. The 8940HX retains the same Zen 4 cores as the Dragon Range but, as spotted from the infographic, it offers a 100MHz higher boost clock than the 7940HX. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the 7000HX and 8000HX series, but we have yet to see official specs.
The Ryzen 9 8940HX brings 16 cores and a 32-thread configuration and will feature up to 5.3 GHz of boost clock. The total L2+L3 cache is 80 MB, which indicates 64 MB of L3 cache retained from the predecessor. In another leak, the Ryzen 9 8940HX was spotted as part of an ASUS ROG laptop. The laptop is a 2025 edition listed on a Chinese retailer for 13,999 Yuan or US$1907 and pairs the 8940HX with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti.
This leak also confirms the presence of the Dragon Range Refresh series, and it is possible that the lineup will be released in a couple of weeks. As far as the graphical capabilities of the Ryzen 8000HX go, don't expect it to compete with Strix Halo as it is purely aimed at CPU-intensive tasks but does bring integrated graphics for basic workloads.
It's expected that the Ryzen 8000HX will retain the same RDNA 2 architecture for the iGPU and will feature two GPU cores, similar to the predecessor. AMD Dragon Range Refresh will be a decent alternative to Dragon Range, but one shouldn't expect much of a performance lift. However, if priced well, it may offer decent value when paired with RTX 50 series GPUs.
