NVIDIA continues to reign supreme in the discrete GPU segment, but AMD & Intel did manage to increase market share in Q3 2025.
Q3 2025 Discrete GPU Market Share Report Shows Both AMD & Intel Gaining 1% Market Share While NVIDIA Falls To 92%
Jon Peddie Research has shared its Q3 2025 AIB (Discrete GPU) market share report for Q3 2025. As per the new report, discrete GPUs on add-in boards amounted to $8.8 billion, reaching 12 Million Units, a 2.8 percent jump versus the previous quarter.
In terms of market share, AMD's discrete GPU market share increased by 0.8%, hitting 7% in Q3 2025. Intel also managed to increase its market share by 0.4%, hitting 1% market share in Q3 2025. NVIDIA saw a 1.2% decline in market share, which is surprising given that they were the only ones to increase overall GPU market share in the same quarter as per the previous report. Their market share dropped from 94% to 92% which still puts the company in a dominant position.
- The AIB overall attach rate in desktop PCs for the quarter increased to 162%, down -0.6% from last quarter.
- The desktop PC CPU market decreased -7.6% year to year, and increased by 3.9% quarter to quarter.
According to JPR, at the current rate, the installed base of AIBs will reach 152 million units by 2029, with discrete GPUs having a penetration rate of 120%. The firm also reports desktop CPU shipments climbing to 19.2 million units in the same quarter.
Total AIB shipments increased by 2.8% from the previous quarter to 12.02 million units. That was less than the historical 10-year average of 11.4% for this quarter. AIB shipments increased by 47.5%.
Q2 AIB shipments were unusually high, which we think was due to panic buying because of the pending tariff. That sapped some sales away from Q3.
Q2 2025 seems to be the standout for the year, which led to higher shipments due to price hikes and the whole tariff situation. As of right now, while there aren't any new GPU launches, several companies have been reported to hike up prices despite the GPUs being available for under MSRP at major retailers. This could lead to a panic-buying spree in Q4 2025 as the price hikes are expected to hit retail in early 2026.
