CableMod Issues Recall For All 12VHPWR Angled Connectors Including Revised Ones To Prevent GPU Damage 1

CableMod has already initiated a "product recall" for its angled 12VHPWR power adapters after widespread incidents emerged.

CableMod Ends The 12VHPWR Adapter Fiasco, Recalls Thousands Of Angled Adapters After Property Damages Hit $74,5000 US

Back in December 2023, CableMod "voluntarily recalled" the 12VHPWR 90 ̊ and 180 ̊Angled Adapters V1.0 and all CableMod 12VHPWR 90 ̊ and 180 ̊ Angled Adapters V1.1 and advised consumers to stop using them if they own one. This came after several users on media forums reported burning incidents with their GPUs when using the CableMod adapters. Hence, the firm saw it best to initiate a recall to prevent further damage. In light of this, a report by the Consumer Product Safety Commission reveals that the firm has recalled a total of 25,300 adapters, which is indeed a huge number.

Moreover, the report by CPSC has revealed the extent of "financial damage" taken by CableMod from this product recall, and it is disclosed that the company has lost well over US $74,000 in the process. CPSC states that they have noted a total of 272 incidents of GPU melting through CableMod adapters, but the actual number might be quite bigger, because the problem has been a long one since the inception of NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace lineup, especially their flagship variant. For those affected, here is the solution as advised by CPSC:

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled angled adapters and contact CableMod for instructions on how to safely remove their adapter from the GPU and for a full refund, including cost of shipping, or a $60 store credit for non-customized products, with free standard shipping.

Consumers will be asked to destroy the adapter and upload a photo of the destroyed product to https://cablemod.com/adapterrecall/. The instructions on how to safely remove the adapter are also located on that site. Once destroyed, consumers should discard the adapter in accordance with local laws.

The firm has received 272 reports of the adapters becoming loose, overheating and melting into the GPU, with at least $74,500 in property damage claims in the United States. No injuries have been reported.

We suggest you stop or find an alternative if you are using a CableMod angled adapter. There aren't any viable options in the market right now regarding third-party connectors, so we urge readers to follow proper steps when connecting your GPUs, along with using official cable adapters that come bundled up with power supplies.
