iOS 18 could also offer new Accessibility features alongside AI changes and additions

iOS 18 will potentially be the biggest update the iPhone has ever received due to Apple's decision to incorporate AI on a kernel level. We have previously covered that Apple is developing various applications in iOS 18 which will revolve around AI. While concrete details are scarce at this stage, a new report claims that Apple is also working on new Accessibility features for its forthcoming iOS 18 as well as macOS 15 updates.

Apple is working on a wide range of Accessibility features for the iPhone, expected to be released with iOS 18

Apple is a little late to the AI race as its competition has already offered a wide range of tools that make use of the technology. Google has implemented AI in various aspects of Android, and one of the most useful additions is found in the Photos app. Apple could also offer something similar with the release of iOS 18 as we have seen the company demonstrate various tools involving still images.

A new report from MacRumors now claims that Apple is also planning to make apps more accessible to its users through the Accessibility features. While the company will enhance the list of accessibility features, it will also improve the current ones. Possibly, the company could also use AI for Accessibility advancements. Some of these changes, according to the report, are as follows:

Adaptive Voice Shortcut

Users will be able to map their phrase or word to a specific accessibility setting, allowing them to access further options with ease. Users can enable VoiceOver, Voice Control, Zoom, and much more by simply speaking a specific phrase they have previously set.

New Live Speech Categories

While Live Speech is already available in iOS 17, iOS 18 will enhance it by offering a dedicated section for categories created by the user. This will allow them to categorize their phrases according to their personal preferences. Users can also name the category to better organize the phrases and set an icon.

Custom Font for Additional Apps

Apple is also working to offer variable Text Size for additional apps. The feature will be located in the Display section of the Accessibility settings. Users can choose different font sizes for different apps. While macOS 15 will bring extended font size support to five new apps, which include books, News, Stocks, Tips, and Weather.

These changes will make certain settings more accessible to users. The publication also claims that the company could also offer the ability to adjust the font size of the menu bar in macOS 15. The company is also working on additional features, which could be showcased at its WWDC 2024 event in June. Note that these features are based on initial reports and the final word rests with Apple. What accessibility feature do you think Apple should offer with iOS 18?
