In what might well be a script ripped off straight from a James Bond thriller, a Pixel Watch 5 prototype has just been discovered by a scuba driver, and is doing the rounds on social media right now, after it was accidentally dropped by a Google employee while traversing the Caribbean.
The unreleased Pixel Watch 5 is being returned to the Google employee who had dropped it in the Caribbean waters, but not before the internet has gotten a good long look at the unreleased device
Randy Pitchford of Gearbox fame has just detailed a bizarre incident, where his friend apparently found a smartwatch while scuba diving off St. Martin island. Upon closer inspection, the diver discovered that the smartwatch was the as yet unreleased Pixel Watch 5, prompting him to try to reach out to the smartwatch's erstwhile owner via the good ol' internet-driven hunt.
In a subsequent update, Pitchford revealed that they were now in touch with the owner of the Pixel Watch 5, and that arrangements were underway for the device's return.
Of course, this incident has created quite a stir on social media, with the famous YouTuber Marques Brownlee commenting on Pitchford's original X post that this was perhaps "the most Google thing to ever happen."
For the benefit of those who might not be aware, even before its recent dramatic reveal, Google's Pixel Watch 5 was expected to sport the familiar circular shape, thinner bezels, a 41mm and a 45mm size options, an enhanced Sapphire crystal display for a durability boost, and an OLED screen with around 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The smartwatch will likely run Google's new WearOS 7, powered by the either the all-new "NPT" Tensor chip or Qualcomm's W5 Gen 3 chip.
