The Galaxy Ring has remained a subject of consternation for Samsung ever since a user's device swelled up on his finger just before he boarded a flight. Now, another Galaxy Ring has swelled up over a period of time, but here the South Korean behemoth does not appear to be at fault.
A Galaxy Ring owner complains of the device's battery swelling up discreetly months after it became defunct
A Redditor who goes by the username u/MaybeNotThrowing recently detailed his harrowing Galaxy Ring experience, one that could have resulted in an injury.
Basically, our protagonist purchased the Galaxy Ring as soon as it launched, presumably in July 2024. However, the device's battery stopped holding a charge roughly nine months after purchase, which would be somewhere around April 2025.
Yet, the Redditor kept on wearing his Galaxy Ring as he "got used to the feeling of it" on his finger. Earlier this week, however, the Redditor tried to plug in the device to a charger, but was surprised to discover that the device would not fit. Upon closer inspection, he discovered that the Galaxy Ring had surreptitiously swollen up, essentially turning into a "ticking time bomb."
Even so, we should point out that Samsung does not appear to be at fault here. After all, our protagonist could have easily replaced his Galaxy Ring's battery during the ensuing warranty period. What's more, he deliberately chose to keep wearing a product that had turned defective. This anecdote serves as a warning of sorts to tackle products whose batteries have turned defective with utmost care and caution.
Meanwhile, as we discussed in a recent post, Samsung's escalating legal fight with Oura, the uncontested apex predator in the smart rings sphere, over supposed instances of patent infringement is now delaying the release of the Galaxy Ring 2. As of now, it remains unclear when Samsung will be able to launch the next iteration of the device.
