The GPU power connector segment has seen an interesting innovation, as a Chinese firm has developed an angled adapter with a dedicated screen to measure power and temperature metrics.
New "Chinese" GPU Adapter Allows Users To See Temperature & Power Being Supplied In Real-Time, Preventing Burning Incidents
Well, we are all aware of the fact that the 12VHPWR connectors proved to be pretty troublesome for NVIDIA's RTX 40 series GPUs, given that they resulted in widespread burning issues. While the industry has come up with alternatives such as revised standards, for example, 12V-2x6, a Chinese manufacturer has showcased an interesting solution, which involves mounting a screen and cooling mechanism on an angled adapter, that not only looks great but might turn out to be useful.
The adapter is available at the Chinese marketplace Taobao, and while we haven't seen it getting reviewed in the mainstream markets, it is certainly an interesting product to look at. The manufacturer does mention that the adapter supports NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace SKUs only and is not compatible with the newer RTX 50 series GPUs, so that is something to consider. You can try using it, but caution is advised here.
The dedicated screen shows metrics such as temperature and power being supplied through the GPU, and that way, users can identify abnormalities and fix the issue instead of letting their adapter run on extreme values. While this certainly won't sort out connector issues, it would definitely help in finding them out in the first place. The adapter has an in-built cooling fan as well, to ensure that it doesn't melt out under high temperatures or stress workloads.
For now, global availability of this adapter isn't confirmed. It retails for 219 RMB/ $30 on the Taobao marketplace, which is a decent price for such a connector.
