AMD's 12-Year-Old AMD FX-9590 CPU has managed to run Battlefield 6 without any major issues despite not being recommended in the minimum specs.

The AMD FX-9590 was introduced back in 2012 as a high-end 8-core CPU based on the Piledriver core architecture. The FX-9590 was also the world's first CPU to hit a boost frequency of 5 GHz, a great feat at the time. Since then, 5.5-6.0 GHz CPUs have become common, though it's interesting that even a decade later, we have only seen a 1 GHz clock rate improvement on CPUs, as most chipmakers now focus on core architectures and bigger caches to improve gaming performance. With that said, the FX-9590 was a top-of-the-line chip at the time.

Now, YouTuber Fully Buffered has managed to run Battlefield 6 on the AMD FX-9590, which shows that the chip still might be capable enough to at least run the game. Do keep in mind that the minimum PC requirements for Battlefield 6 list an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU or an Intel Core i5-8400. So the FX-9590 is several generations older than the minimum requirements set by the game's developer, DICE.

The reason why the AMD FX-9590 was able to run the game is due to the 990FX platform supporting Secure Boot technology, a crucial requirement to run Battlefield 6. In contrast, the AMD Sandy Bridge platform was unable to run the game at all since the Z68 platform didn't feature Secure Boot or TPM.

For testing, Fully Bufferd used an ASUS FX990 motherboard paired with an AMD Radeon RX 5700 8 GB GPU, 16 GB of DDR3-1866 memory, and the game was tested at 1080p. The game ran at 30-35 FPS in the bigger Conquest mode with 64 players and around 35-40 FPS in Rush with 24 players.

While the game is playable, there are certain simulation issues which occur every now and then, and the GPU FPS are clocking in at 120-140 FPS. The CPU is being fully utilized here, which shows several CPU-limited scenarios. The GPU is being so much under-utilized that even the fans stop spinning while playing the game.

So yeah, this is a nice video by Fully Buffered, showcasing that even older AMD FX CPUs, such as the FX-9590, can run Battlefield 6 in a mostly playable state. For the ideal experience, it's better to stick with the minimum system requirements published by the developers. In our tests, modern PC hardware delivered solid performance in Battlefield 6.
