Apple’s Smaller 11-Inch M4 iPad Pro Is More Difficult To Break In The Latest Bend Test, But It Has The Same Exact Weak Spot As The Larger Version

The 13-inch M4 iPad Pro is Apple’s thinnest product ever, which only makes it more susceptible to damage. The company has attempted to improve the structural rigidity by employing a protective cowling in the center, but that was not enough to keep the large tablet from failing the bend test. To see if the smaller 11-inch M4 iPad Pro fares any better, the same YouTube channel took it through the same gauntlet, and while it resisted for much longer, the more compact slate broke from the exact position, as you will see.

The portable 11-inch M4 iPad Pro has another weak point, which was found during the bend test

Sporting a thickness of 5.3mm, the 11-inch M4 iPad Pro is actually thicker than the 13-inch version, which should make it more difficult to bend, and you are right on that front. However, a thinner product will always have compromises when it comes durability and that is something JerryRigEverything proves when he shows off the new iPad Pro sporting the nano-texture display, which is only available with the higher storage configurations.

While you are free to check out the scratch test portion of the video below, we will jump to the section that nearly everyone is waiting to see. When Zach attempts to bend the 11-inch M4 iPad Pro, the tablet flexes hard, but there is no catastrophic damage. However, after a while, the slate snaps where one of the microphones is placed, but this position is different than the weak area where the USB-C charging port is placed.

Then again, after some more bending, the smaller iPad Pro snaps from the exact place, revealing that Apple needs to make additional structural improvements in that area. After removing the top glass panel, we see the same ‘spine’ outline that supposedly improves the tablet’s durability. For anyone upgrading to these models, it is highly unlikely that any M4 iPad Pro model breaks like this, as that requires a ton of pressure. Sure, the shape might get warped, but that is about the only change you will witness.
