You Can Now Buy The $230 Apple iPhone Pocket For The Price Of 2 Big Macs, With A Caveat

Eight colorful Pixel 8 smartphone cases are displayed, with one case revealing the phone's dual camera setup.

When you launch an overpriced accessory with nary a differentiating factor, clones will inevitably pop up to siphon off some of that big, fat margin. This is exactly what seems to be occurring with one of the latest accessories from Apple - the iPhone Pocket.

The fake Apple iPhone Pocket is now available on Alibaba for the price of just 2 Big Macs

As we had noted just around 2 weeks back, Apple has now launched the iPhone Pocket, a fabric-based satchel of sorts for your iPhone, in collaboration with ISSEY MIYAKE.

The accessory, quite predictably, has proven to be divisive, with some panning Apple for launching a glorified sock, while others flocking to the Apple Store to get their hands on the iPhone Pocket.

Well, now you can buy a fake yet identical iPhone Pocket on Alibaba, priced at just around $10, or two Big Mac burgers from McDonald's. Do note that the official short-strap version of the accessory is priced at around $150 on the Apple Store, while its long-strap sibling is priced at $230.

Accordingly, the fake Alibaba version of the iPhone Pocket entails a discount of 93 percent relative to the cheapest version of the official offering. Of course, you won't get an ISSEY MIYAKE label on the Alibaba-based ripoff.

As we had noted in our earlier post on the topic, those buying the iPhone Pocket are not doing so because the accessory is functional or because its fabric feels soft to the touch. Instead, they are doing so because of the supposed "cool factor," and unfortunately, the resulting peer pressure might force some to buy this clone from Alibaba. After all, emotional stimuli are often very powerful drivers of impulsive buying.
