After Oppo, Nokia and Vivo Sign a Patent Cross-License Agreement, Hinting at a Wider Avalability of Vivo Devices in the Future

Nokia has announced that it is signing a multi-year cross-license agreement with Chinese smartphone giant Vivo. The Chinese company has also agreed to pay all the royalties that are due, as well as the catch-up payments for the dispute tenure. This good news comes after earlier this year, Oppo entered a similar agreement, and this is another step towards international availability for these devices.

The international markets could finally get access to Vivo phones as it enters a multi-year agreement with Nokia

The agreement between Vivo and Nokia involves all the pending patent litigation between both companies and at the time of writing, the terms between both companies are still confidential. Therefore, we cannot really share the details with you, but considering how both companies have come to an agreement that we thought would never happen, it certainly is a good thing.

So, what does this mean for the consumers? Well, this signed agreement between Nokia and Vivo is one of the last steps in the company's smartphone licensing renewal cycle. It means that the Chinese company could start releasing its phones in the European market just like Oppo. The phones have not made it to the European market ever since the lawsuit took place, and we have been deprived of some of the best phones that these companies have released.

It is impressive because this is the sixth major smartphone patent license agreement that Nokia has signed in the past thirteen months. The deal is there to ensure that there is long-term stability to the company's licensing business, and this new agreement ensures that all involved parties are going to benefit from this for years to come. At the same time, Vivo commented on how both companies have mutual recognition and respect for each other. Not just that, the Chinese company has also talked about how this deal is going to help both companies develop a stronger relationship and development within the industry.

It is too early to say when Vivo phones are going to actually come to the international markets, but considering the company is responsible for making some of the phones that one could think about, I am really looking forward to a proper materialization of this agreement so we can start getting great phones in the market all over again.
