Plausible
Much has been written and said about the flagging sales of Apple's new iPhone Air. Yet, as per a fresh report out of Asia, the iPhone 16e might also be going the way of the ultra-slim iPhone.
Fixed Focus Digital: "Both the iPhone Air and the iPhone 16e did not sell very well"
According to the Weibo-based tipster, Fixed Focus Digital, "both the iPhone Air and iPhone 16e did not sell very well."
It remains unclear if the tipster is referring to China-based sales volume or the global sales cadence of these two iPhone models.
Even so, Fixed Focus Digital believes that both the iPhone Air and the iPhone 16e will get successors, referring to the iPhone Air 2 and the iPhone 17e, respectively.
The iPhone Air 2: To be or not to be
Meanwhile, the drama around the fate of the iPhone Air 2 continues. We noted earlier this week that, as per the reporting by The Information, Foxconn - the only major supplier of components for the iPhone Air in conjunction with Luxshare - has already halted almost all production lines for the current iPhone Air, barring one complete line and another half a line. Moreover, by the end of the month, Foxconn will halt all production lines for the ultra-slim variant. Meanwhile, the other assembler, Luxshare, already halted its production lines for the ultra-slim iPhone back in October. The production halt might be Apple's way of clearing up inventories.
While that report also suggested that Apple had delayed the iPhone Air 2 indefinitely, partly due to the poor reception for the iPhone Air, a subsequent report clarified that a second iteration of the ultra-slim iPhone is still in the works, albeit with a second ultra-wide, 48-megapixel camera. In essence, Apple seems to believe that equipping the iPhone Air 2 with a dual-camera setup might entice a greater number of people to buy it.
