Thunderobot has launched its first gaming PCs with Chinese-made Hygon C86 CPUs, focusing on the domestic market.

Hygon's 16-Core CPUs Land In First Gaming PCs From Thunderobot, Tests Reveal Mainstream-Level Performance

During a recent eSports tournament held in China, Thunderobot unveiled its new gaming PCs, which take an unusual twist by incorporating not AMD or Intel CPUs, but China's domestically produced C86 CPUs from Hygon. These gaming PCs are said to feature competitive performance in mainstream eSports titles and even have the ability to run AAA games to some extent.

As for the specifications, the Hygon C86-4G CPUs feature up to 16 cores, 32 threads, 32 MB of L3 cache, and support the latest standards such as DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 expansion.

These are consumer-grade gaming PCs that are ready to be deployed, and the most interesting choice is the CPU selection, which has 16 cores, matching the core count of current-gen AMD offerings. Although there are 16 cores, they should not be compared with similar 16-core offerings from AMD or Intel. But the interesting thing is that these are based on a chiplet design, with two chiplets, each incorporating 8 cores and 16 MB of L3 cache.

In terms of performance, the Hygon C86 sits between the Core i7-13700 and Core i7-14700 CPUs in both SPEC 2006 and V-Ray tests. The same gaming system was also showcased running Black Myth: Wukong at a playable framerate, though the GPU used for the testing wasn't mentioned.

The Hygon C86 CPUs are compatible with the x86 ecosystem, which means they should have no trouble running Windows OS, and the respective apps and games.

Although pricing is not mentioned, gaming PCs featuring Hygon C86 processors will be highly competitive in terms of value. We should see more gaming PCs featuring China's domestically produced chips in the future as the market is moving towards a China-First policy.
