Ever since its release, Threads has managed to come a long way, and for all the right reasons. It has easily become the go-to app for anyone who is looking for a stellar Twitter replacement. However, it is still behind some of the key features that make Twitter a better alternative, and one of those features is the ability to send and receive messages from within the app.
Threads gaining Instagram's DM feature is a step in the right direction, but it could be too late
However, that could change as an APK teardown revealed that Threads could soon gain Instagram's DM integration. This means the messages you send and receive on Instagram can also be done on the Twitter-clone.
Now, it is worth noting that while you might not want to use the direct messaging feature in Threads, it is safe to say that it is an integral part of any social media app that you find in the market, and therefore, it makes sense why this platform should also have a DM functionality.
The code was found in the Threads app on Android, and the version was v315.0.0.29.109. You can look at the strings of code below to have a better understanding:
<string name="APKTOOL_DUMMYVAL_0x7f12004b">When you message people on Instagram, your most recent chats will show up here.</string>
<string name="APKTOOL_DUMMYVAL_0x7f12004c">"You don't have any chats yet"</string>
<string name="APKTOOL_DUMMYVAL_0x7f120035">Messages ·%1$s</string>
<string name="APKTOOL_DUMMYVAL_0x7f120036">Messages</string>
<string name="APKTOOL_DUMMYVAL_0x7f120046">To see your chats here, open Instagram and log in first.</string>
Looking at the strings, it is clear that Threads will be integrating Instagram's messaging service, and although it might seem pointless, I am really glad that the platform is finally getting its messaging feature.
It's also worth noting that just because there is some information found in the APK teardown, it is not necessarily 100% accurate. More often than not, the upcoming features are scraped for one reason or another, and you might see the same happening to the DM feature coming to Threads. However, if the feature does end up coming to the app, we will be sure to let you know about it.
