Sketchy rumor claims Apple is considering revisiting the 12-inch MacBook
The rumor was shared in the Korean blog Naver by "yeux1122" who has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple leaks. The leaker suggests that Apple is planning to bring back the 12-inch MacBook. The post states that Apple is exploring the future prospects of a smaller MacBook, and it is too early to conclude if the company will go ahead with its decision. Production of the device is underway, and the company is planning to confirm if the device should move to mass production later this year.
This is not the first time that we are hearing details on the launch of a revised 12-inch MacBook. It was reported back in 2022 by Ming-Chi Kuo that Apple is not working on the device. Prominent display analyst Ross Young was also unsure if Apple will release a new MacBook model with a screen size of less than 13 inches.
The smaller MacBook does make sense for students and is the perfect laptop for travel. One of the downsides of the original 12-inch MacBook was its performance. It featured a fanless design with an Intel-powered CPU. Additionally, it also came with a USB-C port and butterfly keyboard mechanism. While the design and form factor was great, the performance lagged behind Apple's more powerful MacBook Air lineup.
Since the debut of Apple's custom silicon, the launch of a 12-inch MacBook does make a lot of sense. For instance, even if Apple equips the device with an M1 chip, the performance gap that made the machine a flop would be filled. Additionally, due to its massive advantage in the portability department, the 12-inch MacBook could be a perfect fit for students and professionals.
