Solidigm, the consumer SSD manufacturer, has reportedly discontinued all of its SSDs, marking the end of the company's journey in the segment.
Solidigm's P41 & P44 Pro Series SSDs Are No Longer Available On The Official Website, Discontinuation Process Started Months Ago
For those unaware, Solidigm is a subsidiary of SK hynix and was responsible for bringing consumer SSDs to the market. SK Hynix got hold of the company back in 2021 when they purchased it from Intel for $9 billion, and interestingly, the South Korean giant had access to Intel's core SSD technology; hence, it was presumed that Solidigm would perform well in the markets, but it looks like this isn't the case, since as spotted by ITHome, the firm has taken down P44 Pro and P41 Plus SSDs from the official website.
When opening the official web pages of its consumer SSDs, there's a pop-up on the top showing the "Product Discontinuation" message. Not just this, but the main website has removed the consumer SSD sub-category as well, now only showing a data center storage solution, which the company apparently will now focus on. The company's list of discontinued products shows that the P44 Pro and P41 Plus SSDs saw their EOL in October 2024.
Solidigm's P-series SSDs were quite capable, especially when compared to their more mainstream counterparts in the markets, but it looks like the sluggish SSD business didn't get the best of them. For now, Soldigm appears more determined with its data center segment. Recently, we discussed the company's first 122 TB data center storage, offering industry-leading speeds and power efficiency figures.
Soldigm's apparent shutdown does indicate that the consumer SSD segment isn't going well for the markets, except for a few mainstream players, and given that Solidigm has positioned its portfolio in the data center segment for several quarters now, the consumer business closure did seem imminent at one point.
