Compared to the competition, Samsung has treated the internal specifications of its flagship smartphones with little to no regard, or that is what the general opinion about the company is when it introduced this year’s Galaxy S24 series with 8GB RAM as standard. Fortunately, according to the latest rumor, the Korean giant has learned from its past mistakes and is said to introduce 12GB RAM for all Galaxy S25 models. This revelation hints that the top-end Galaxy S25 Ultra could be configured with even more memory.
The increase in RAM could be attributed to Samsung bringing in more on-device generative AI features to the Galaxy S25 family, which require more memory to operate flawlessly
This year, Samsung capped its flagships to feature just 12GB RAM, with the Galaxy S24 Plus and the Galaxy S24 Ultra getting treated to this upgrade, and the base Galaxy S24 stuck at an embarrassingly low 8GB RAM. Next year, when the company gears up to launch the Galaxy S25 series, Abhishek Yadav has posted on X that all three models will ship with 12GB RAM as standard. This upgrade will not just benefit the daily experience when you want to keep apps running in the background for longer, but it will also be advantageous when running on-device generative AI features.
As the majority of you know, Samsung introduced ‘Galaxy AI’ earlier this year, which delivers a suite of generative AI features operating through the cloud. To run more features locally, a 12GB RAM upgrade is necessary, but even this is a low count because there are various competitors, including the OnePlus 13, whose top-end version will ship with a whopping 24GB LPDDR5X RAM. The plus side is that with the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ shipping with 12GB RAM, Samsung can go ‘all out’ with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The base storage variant of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will come with 12GB of RAM.
So, no 8GB RAM variant for the S25 and S25+ this time. ❌#Samsung #GalaxyS25Series #GalaxyS25Ultra

According to notable tipster Ice Universe, the base Galaxy S25 Ultra will continue to be treated to 12GB RAM, with the kitted out variant featuring 16GB, which can be yours if you are willing to spend some extra cash. A previous report mentioned that in the future, phone makers will have to stick with 20GB RAM as the bare minimum if they want their AI models to run on smartphones locally.
While incorporating 20GB memory from Samsung is a bit far off for its devices, the company will likely have little choice but to gravitate to these specifications as the competition was already laser-focused on providing customers with the best ‘off the shelf’ parts.
