In what was an unusual paradigm up till now, Apple came later to the wireless charging party, but offered a faster wireless charging experience than what Samsung could boast of in its Galaxy S-series. Now, however, Samsung is finally upgrading the wireless charging experience of its premium smartphones, bringing iPhone-like charging speeds into the equation for the first time.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra to support 25W wireless charging, the base S26, as well as the S26+, to offer a 20W wireless charging experience
According to Taiwan's Economic Times, Samsung is finally bringing iPhone-like wireless charging to the Galaxy S26 lineup:
- The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra will support 25W wireless charging, reducing the total charging time by around 40 percent relative to the 15W wireless charging experience that Samsung offered in previous models.
- The standard Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26+ will support 20W wireless charging, which is equivalent to what the iPhone Air currently supports.
Samsung has been fairly conservative with its battery tech ever since the Galaxy Note 7 started combusting spontaneously back in 2016, prompting a mass recall and a huge PR headache for the South Korean behemoth. Now, however, it seems Samsung is finally getting over its internal hesitation apropos a more aggressive battery charging tech.
Do note that Apple has offered support for the Qi2 wireless charging standard since last year's iPhone 16 lineup, entailing wireless charging speeds of up to 25W. Some Chinese OEMs have gone a number of steps further, offering up to 50W of wireless charging.
These upgraded wireless charging speeds are expected to feature on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z-series foldables, including the Galaxy Z TriFold, and then trickle down to other, more affordable models as well.
