Early tests reveal that COD: Black Ops 7 favors AMD RDNA 4 GPUs significantly over NVIDIA's GeForce cards. The test reveals a significant difference in performance between AMD's top-of-the-line GPU and its direct competitor.
Radeon RX 9070 XT Crushes GeForce RTX 5070 Ti in COD: Black Ops 7 At All Resolutions; Goes Closer to NVIDIA RTX 5090 at 1440p
It's not uncommon to see some games favor AMD or NVIDIA GPUs over their direct competitors, but a performance gap in double digits is often rare, particularly when the GPUs trade blows in most games. The latest installment in the COD series is about to be released, but the Beta phase of the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has already been tested by Computer Base, which revealed some shocking results.
For the test, Computer Base tested them with upscalers set to the quality settings, comparing the latest AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel GPUs head to head. The game supports DLSS 4 out of the box, but won't feature FSR 4 natively, at least as of now. However, it does come with FSR 3.1 support, and that means with the latest Adrenalin drivers, you can upgrade it to FSR 4 on RDNA 4 GPUs. That's how Computer Base tested the game with FSR 4 with Radeon RX 9070 XT, which is AMD's best GPU in the RX 9000 series.
However, despite being slower than the RTX 5070 Ti in general, the GPU managed to outperform NVIDIA's best upper mid-range offering by a huge margin. Usually, you will see the RTX 5070 Ti being 6-7% faster than the RX 9070 XT, but in this case, the RX 9070 XT took a huge lead, delivering a staggering 31% higher performance at 1440p resolution. It's not just impressive because it beats the RTX 5070 Ti, but also because it is the closest to the GeForce RTX 5090, a GPU that is miles ahead of the RX 9070 XT in general.
Unfortunately, we didn't have the GeForce RTX 5080 in the charts, but it appears that the RX 9070 XT is likely even faster than the RTX 5080 at 1440p. At 3440x1440p and 4K, the gap becomes wider between the RX 9070 XT and RTX 5090, but the RX 9070 XT is still able to comfortably beat its direct competitor at both resolutions. Moreover, the AMD GPU is also much more impressive at 1% lows, delivering a smoother gaming experience.
It should be noted that the game doesn't appear to favor "all" AMD GPUs since the RX 7800 XT is on par with the RTX 4070, which was its direct competitor. Other GPUs, such as the RX 7600, also stayed on par with their NVIDIA competitors, which means the game looks well-optimized for RDNA 4 GPUs. It would have been great if we could see more RDNA 4 GPUs in the charts, such as the RX 9060 XT, but guess, we have to wait until the game launches officially on 14th November.
