Qualcomm is now gearing up to remove the proverbial wraps from its latest mobile SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, billed as a flexible processing platform that still delivers flagship-level features.

Qualcomm will unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 on November 26

As per the post on Weibo, Qualcomm will launch the smaller sibling of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 - the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 - on November 26.

Built on TSMC's 3nm process, the chip will reportedly have its prime cores clocked at 3.80GHz, while its performance cores would be clocked at 3.32GHz.

Also, while some rumors suggest that the chip will sport 1 prime core and 7 performance cores, the prolific Weibo-based tipster, Digital Chat Station, claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will feature 2 prime cores and 6 performance cores, essentially mimicking the architecture of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

For the benefit of those who might not be aware, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 bears the following CPU architecture:

  1. 6 Oryon Phoenix M Performance CPU cores clocked at 3.63 GHz
  2. 2 Oryon Phoenix L Prime CPU cores clocked at 4.61 GHz

If Digital Chat Station's reported specs pan out, the new chip will feature prime cores that are clocked at a frequency that is around 17.5 percent below that of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5's prime cores.

The difference between performance cores, however, is expected to be much more muted, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 reportedly underclocked by just 8.5 percent in this category.

Given the fact that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is already attracting attention for running too hot at times, the relatively underclocked cores of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 do not necessarily constitute a downgrade, and might even be interpreted as offering a more thermally stable profile.

Finally, do note that OnePlus Ace 6T, the Vivo S50, and Vivo X Fold 6 are expected to be some of the first devices to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip.
