The Portal X can be a good alternative to the Mystic Light software, but it won't be as versatile as the latter.
MSI Rolls Out Portal X to Control Lighting on MSI Motherboards, Graphics Cards, and Memory Modules; Requires No Updates
If you don't like to wait for the MSI Mystic Light app to open, then you can now try a lightweight web-based tool called Portal X, which MSI announced today in a blog post. MSI Portal X is essentially a tool that gives you quick access to the lighting effects on your PC hardware, allowing you to quickly change or tweak the lighting modes, provided they are from MSI.
MSI Portal X won't be as versatile in functionality as the MSI Mystic Light and will offer "Limited" lighting control on the hardware, unlike the latter, which offers support for not just MSI products but also several third-party devices. That said, those who don't want to delve into advanced lighting modes or tweaks can opt for the Portal X to quickly change their RGB lighting modes on the following components:
- MSI Motherboards
- MSI Graphics Cards
- Memory modules
Portal X is reportedly compatible with most memory modules on the market, and therefore, you can now sync these three components via this tool quickly. MSI has listed a bunch of differences between the Portal X and Mystic Light, and unlike the latter, Portal X doesn't need any updates. You just need to download it once, and once you install it, it will always open in a browser. MSI says that both Edge and Chrome browsers are supported, and you will find all your MSI components in the interface for a quick RGB lighting mode change.
That said, you will always need an internet connection to access Portal X. MSI says that if you have connected your fans and AIO coolers to the motherboard's ARGB headers, you can control the RGB lighting on those parts as well. However, you can't control the fan speeds or AIO cooler display screens through the tool at the moment. This is something that is possible to see in the future if MSI gets enough requests from users.
