A Max Payne 2 RTX Remix mod is launching soon, and it will look stunning, judging from some new footage.
The upcoming mod, developed by Darko P, which will introduce path tracing to the second entry in the series created by Remedy Entertainment, has been showcased with the aforementioned new preview footage ahead of its release, reportedly coming "soon" on ModDB.
While the mod is not 100% complete and will come with some issues documented by the modder themselves, including some oddities like spherical bathroom mirrors and minor culling problems where geometry disappears at certain angles, it's undeniable that it is excellent work that significantly updates the classic game.
While the Max Payne 1 and 2 RTX Remix mods aren't complete, they are definitely a good way for those eagerly anticipating the official remake, combining both games, to tide themselves over. In August of last year, we learned that the remake entered full production in the second quarter of 2024, with the goal to have the entire game in an early functional state from start to finish as soon as possible.
Sadly, that's the last we have heard about the Max Payne 1 and 2 remake, but if work has been proceeding well, it shouldn't take much longer to see it in action finally. Powered by the same Northlight Engine that has powered stunning games like Control and Alan Wake 2, it will be exciting to see how the power of the engine will be put to use to revamp two of the best games ever made.
