M3 MacBook Air sharp edges mod

All of Apple’s current-generation MacBook Air models feature an absolutely phenomenal construction, with the company leading the competition in this area by using a solid unibody aluminum construction that will withstand the test of time. In short, these machines are built like tanks, but not everyone can get accustomed to this design, particularly the front edges, which can be sharp to some. For one 13-inch M3 MacBook Air owner, the experience was becoming a little too uncomfortable for his taste, which is why he resorted to smoothing out the sharper edges with sandpaper and giving it a clean finish with polish.

The only drawback to smoothening the sharp edges of the M3 MacBook Air is that the polished area is prone to oxidation, but nothing like a simple wiping job will do the trick

A Redditor with the username ‘jurassic73’ had suffered enough at the hands of his 13-inch M3 MacBook Air’s front sharp edges, even though he considers the machine ‘great.’ Various laptop manufacturers resort to this design because it helps companies avoid an extra step and save costs that they would otherwise have been forced to undertake by grinding down the aluminum. The biggest drawback to this is that when using the M3 MacBook Air for prolonged periods, it feels as if the front side is practically piercing the hands.

We cannot confirm how long jurassic73 owned his 13-inch M3 MacBook Air, but it is probably long enough that his hands had endured enough ordeal. He removed the front edge, back, and sides by 4cm using a 220-grit orbital sander and then switched to Mothers Aluminum Polish for delivering the finishing touches. As you can tell in the top image, the final result came out exceptionally clean, indicating that the individual is a professional in his craft.

The only problem with this mod is that, over time, oxidation will appear since the anodized layer has been removed, but the M3 MacBook Air owner says that he can wipe off those blemishes at any time. He now says that the portable Mac is highly comfortable to use, but we wouldn’t advise anyone to go down this route if they don’t have sufficient practice.
