The mystery around Julian Brown's disappearance has just become thicker, as the inventor of Plastoline, an innovative plastic-to-fuel solution, has now made first-contact with his followers, albeit via a cryptic post.

As we detailed in a related post earlier this week, Julian Brown's Plastoline is a solar-powered, microwave-based pyrolysis machine that breaks down plastic into usable fuels such as diesel. The upshot: the fuel produced in this manner is quite clean, devoid of the junk that often litters comparable plastic-to-fuel conversions, as per an assessment by the Vancouver-based ASAP Labs.

Of course, pyrolysis is not a new process, and has been billed as a relatively clean solution to earth's mounting plastic problem. The method does have a few negatives though, including high costs and the production of toxic byproducts such as Styrene. Julian Brown tried to combat the high costs associated with a conventional pyrolysis process by using a series of microwave generators within his Plastoline machine, all power by solar energy. And, of course, toxic byproducts can be neutralized with the help of scrubbers.

What sets Julian Brown apart, however, is his grassroots origins, having started his pyrolysis journey in high school equipped with nothing more than a welding certification. It was this 'next door guy' persona that allowed Brown to go viral on social media, eventually amassing upwards of 1.8 million followers on Instagram alone.

This brings us to today's topic. Julian Brown went into hiding after posting a disturbing video on his Instagram page on the 09th of July, declaring that he was "certainly under attack." Brown also called on his followers to "pray for him."

Since then, Brown has not been seen or heard, until now that is. Just minutes back, Julian Brown published a cryptic, blank post, which has already garnered nearly 1,500 comments, with many speculating that his account might have been hacked.

Do note that Brown's mother previously announced that her son was safe, declining to furnish any other information "in the best interest of his security."

Do you think Julian Brown's Instagram page has been hacked? Or is this a deliberate move to inflate the mystery around his supposed disappearance? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
