The iPhone 17 lineup is months away from being announced, and from what we can observe in the latest leaks and rumors, the devices will undergo a significant redesign. It was initially reported that the company is only planning to redesign the iPhone 17 Air, which will replace the iPhone 17 Plus in the lineup. A new leak has now emerged that allegedly showcases the design of the widely rumored iPhone 17 Air and how it will be different from the current models.
iPhone 17 Air will feature the same camera bar at the back as the 'Pro' models but with an ultra-thin design
Jon Prosser, from the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, shared a video that shows the design and renders of a device that appears to be the iPhone 17 Air. We have previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air will be Apple's thinnest iPhone ever, even more so than the iPhone 6, which came in at 5.9mm. However, it is still not the thinnest device that Apple has ever made, as the 13-inch OLED iPad Pro holds the record for being the thinnest at 5.1mm.
According to Prosser, the iPhone 17 Air will measure 5.5mm thin at its thinnest point, which means the device will be slightly thicker than both iPad Pro models with OLED display. Nonetheless, if the leak has any heft to it, the iPhone 17 Air will still be the thinnest iPhone that Apple has ever made. Samsung is also working on its new slim variant of the Galaxy S25, which will possibly be called the 'Edge' model, but it remains to be seen which company will unveil a thinner device.
Apart from the device's thinness, the iPhone 17 Air leak also showcases the new camera bar on the back, which will be Apple's innovation in design this year. The camera bar will house all the necessary components that you will find on the current models, including the single-lens camera sensor on the left side of the bar coupled with a mic and LED flash on the right.
We can see that Apple is taking a streamlined approach this year, as all models are speculated to come with a camera bar at the back. Prosser also unveiled the design of the iPhone 17 Pro last week, which shows the same camera bar on the rear. However, compared to the iPhone 17 Air, it is quite large, as it houses three camera lenses, a LiDAR scanner, an LED flash, and a mic.
It remains to be seen if the leaks have any heft, as Jon Prosser has a mixed track record when it comes to sharing details on unreleased Apple products. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone SE 4 tomorrow, and we will be extensively covering the release, so do stick around.
