iPhone 12 remains banned in France

Apple recently released a software update for iPhone 12 users in France that would seemingly address the handset’s radiation levels to comply with regulatory authorities. Unfortunately, ANFR, the governing body in the country, stated in a press release that the 6.1-model launched back in 2020 is still banned in a few regions, though these areas are those that are controlled outside of the country’s direct borders, which Apple might have missed.

The iPhone 12 ban is currently in place in five French ‘departments’

The press release spotted by AppleInsider states that the ban has persisted in ‘overseas departments.’ The term ‘departments’ is used to label areas outside of France’s own borders, and in total, there are 13 of them in the world. However, the press release mentions that the ANFR has only maintained the iPhone 12 ban in five of them: Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Mayotte, and Reunion.

Since Apple launched the software update for the iPhone 12 to address the radiation levels for users situated inside the French border, it makes sense that the ban would be maintained in the aforementioned regions, as those are outside of the borders. Then again, these complications should have been discussed by the ANFR and Apple to prevent additional discomfort being experienced by both parties and, consequently, the iPhone 12 users.

Fortunately, the press release states that Apple has planned a future update in these five territories, and it is expected to launch by the end of the year. It was earlier reported that the technology giant’s employees knew about the ban but were instructed to keep quiet about this information. Still, no evidence proves that smartphone radio waves have an adverse impact on human health during prolonged use, as even WHO’s research reveals no side effects.

However, since the warning was issued to Apple around the iPhone 15 release, the company had little choice but to comply since it would have placed risk on the four new models, with the regulatory body placing extra scrutiny on them, bringing about more problems for the firm.
