Xiaomi 17 Pro Max Needs A 55 Percent Bigger Battery Than The iPhone 17 Pro Max Just To Have A 5-Minute Lead In New Battery Test

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max needs a massive battery to stay ahead of the iPhone 17 Pro Max

The efficiency side of the iPhone 17 Pro Max should be talked about more often, because rivals like the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max that are kitted out with the best-in-class hardware, along with a humongous-sized battery capacity of a 7,500mAh battery, cannot match the ‘performance per watt’ aspect of Apple’s flagship. In the latest battery test, the iPhone 17 Pro Max powers off just 5 minutes before the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, but the latter sports a 55 percent bigger battery.

iPhone 17 Pro Max tested against the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max features a smaller battery because it is the non-eSIM version

For those who have not been keeping up, the eSIM version of the iPhone 17 Pro Max features a larger 5,088mAh battery compared to the 4,823mAh cell belonging to the unit that was a part of the latest battery drain test conducted by TechDroider. Even then, a 7,500mAh cell running in the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is required to outlast its rival. Now, just assume that if Apple were to adopt silicon-carbon batteries on its devices, what would be the outcome?

While we contemplate the Cupertino firm shifting to the newer batteries, let us focus on the battery test and the recorded temperatures of not just the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but four other flagships that were included in the gauntlet: Xiaomi 15 Pro, OnePlus 13, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. You can check out the results for each device below, but you will notice that the numbers are a little different compared to a previous battery test.

For instance, Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL manages to beat the Galaxy S25 Ultra in the latest run, but in the earlier test, Samsung’s top-end model beat its Android flagship compatriot, only to fall short against the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Thanks to the vapor chamber, the latter also maintains better thermals than the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

It is possible that the custom UI incorporated on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max caused a higher battery drain because there was a point in the test when the flagship’s temperature exceeded the maximum threshold, forcing the YouTuber to pause the battery run momentarily. You can have a look at the video above and let us know what you think in the comments.
