The Arc B770 has been in the reports for a few weeks now, and it is going to be the first Battlemage discrete GPU to enter the mobile platform if the report is true.

Intel BMG-G31 Spotted in NBD Shipment Manifest; GPU is Reportedly Being Used in a Microsoft Surface Laptop

Intel's BMG-G31-based GPU hasn't yet launched, and we are already hearing about the GPU being deployed in laptops. The GPU isn't yet official, but its GPU die, BMG-G31, has been spotted a few times in NBD shipments and also in Compute Runtime, confirming that the GPU does exist. Although the naming isn't confirmed yet, it's likely going to be the successor of the Arc A770, and therefore, could be named Arc "B770".

Currently, the fastest Xe2-based Battlemage discrete GPUs utilize the BMG-G21 die, which is found on the Arc B580 and the B570. The Arc B770 will utilize the BMG-G31 die, which is supposedly similar in size but will feature more shaders. As per the newly leaked NBD shipping manifest, the BMG-G31 is reportedly being utilized in a mobile platform. Apparently, it's the Microsoft Surface 7, which is usually known for its lightweight and thin design.

Latest Surface 7 laptops usually utilize the Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite chips and don't come with a discrete GPU. The newer Surface 7 laptop is also available with Lunar Lake chips, which is how Microsoft's Surface 7 is already utilizing the Xe2-based GPUs, and therefore, a discrete GPU option is unusual to see on this laptop. Nonetheless, if what we are witnessing is true, it's going to be the first and also the fastest Battlemage discrete GPU to be deployed on a laptop. No other discrete Battlemage Arc B series GPUs have been used on mobile platforms yet, and that too on a laptop that doesn't utilize a dGPU. So, it is also possible that this configuration may not end up becoming a reality at all.

The Arc B770 could be an interesting choice for mobile platforms, but it's going to be a difficult position for the GPU, as 60 and 70-class NVIDIA mobile GPUs are already dominating the gaming laptops segment. As far as its specifications go, it will boast 32 Xe2 cores and 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM with a 256-bit memory bus. We don't know where the B770 will stack up against NVIDIA or AMD GPUs, but going by the specs, it should be significantly faster than the Arc B580 and could compete against the RTX 5060 Ti or RX 9060 XT.
