Well, that's one way of ending enduring suspense. Julian Brown, the internet sensation behind the plastic-to-fuel device Plastoline, has now resumed his work activities after a weeks' long hiatus, which had been prompted by mysterious threats.
We noted earlier this week that Julian Brown's Instagram page had become active for the first time since the 09th of July, when he had made the shocking claim that he was "certainly under attack." The internet sensation had then gone underground, unleashing rampant speculation among his 1.8 million Instagram followers.
Now, in a new video posted to his Instagram page, Brown has detailed how some hackers were apparently able to gain control over his iCloud account, which allowed them to "remotely view and watch" all of his activities on his smartphone.
Elsewhere in the video, Julian Brown utters familiar words, including his belief that he is a "vessel for the collective consciousness," and that those fighting him are actually "fighting the whole world."
For the benefit of those who might not be aware, Julian Brown's Plastoline is a solar-powered, microwave-based pyrolysis machine that breaks down plastic into usable fuels such as diesel. The upshot: the fuel produced in this manner is quite clean, devoid of the junk that often litters comparable plastic-to-fuel conversions, as per an assessment by the Vancouver-based ASAP Labs.
Of course, pyrolysis is not a new process, and has been billed as a relatively clean solution to earth's mounting plastic problem. The method does have a few negatives though, including high costs and the production of toxic byproducts such as Styrene. Julian Brown tried to combat the high costs associated with a conventional pyrolysis process by using a series of microwave generators within his Plastoline machine, all power by solar energy. And, of course, toxic byproducts can be neutralized with the help of scrubbers.
It was Julian Brown's grassroots origins that quickly made him a viral content creator. And, of course, the inventor does have his quirks, including a very expressive religious faith, paired with a down-to-earth overall persona.
Now, that the inventor of Plastoline has returned to an active public life, we wish him all the best.
