Google Wants Your Input on What Bard Features Should Come Out This Year

Google Bard Extensions have been out for some time now, and the latest update finally gives the chatbot the ability to go through YouTube videos and explain to the user what's happening. This is a great feature for anyone who does not have time to watch a video but would rather prefer text-based information.

Google Bard has made it easy for you to understand YouTube videos without having to sit through them

Google has finally announced that it is "taking the first steps in Bard’s ability to understand YouTube videos.” With the latest update, Google Bard can “understand some video content so you can have a richer conversation” about it.

For example, if you’re looking for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires.

This definitely is a Google Bard feature that I can expect a lot of people to use because oftentimes, you want a video to be summarized so you don't have to sit through it. After all, reading a summary is much faster than actually going through the entire video or audio. With that said, the feature is now rolling out, but it will take some time before it is available for everyone. I just gave it a try with a video from The Boys, and it managed to summarize without any issues. However, in one instance, I gave it a video that did not have a closed caption attached to it, and Bard couldn't get through it. So, it is safe to say that some parameters are not going to work right away.

Regardless, Google introducing this feature to Google Bard is definitely a step in the right direction. With on-device AI becoming a thing in 2024, we can expect this feature to be a default in Pixel phones and perhaps other devices, as well.
