Techland has just announced that Update 1.4 for Dying Light: The Beast is now live. This patch adds many new features and improvements, such as ray tracing on PC, which was promised before launch but cut from the release version. PC players can now optionally enable ray traced lighting, shadows and reflections in Dying Light: The Beast, thus improving the immersion and atmosphere of Castor Woods. Additionally, over 70 graphical issues have been resolved by the Polish studio, including problems with textures, floating assets, clipping and misaligned architecture.
As promised by Techland in the 11-week roadmap shared last month, the first-person survival horror adventure game now offers new ways to extend longevity, thanks to the introduction of a New Game+ mode. Players can replay Kyle Crane's story while retaining all the gear, weapons and character progression they acquired in their first playthrough. The enemy difficulty increases, as you'd expect, but new higher-tier weapons and loot become available to match the challenge. New Game+ can be repeated multiple times, with each completed run raising the game’s difficulty further and granting access to even stronger and rarer weapons, as well as the most formidable enemies in Castor Woods.
Update 1.4 brings Legend Levels to Dying Light: The Beast. This is the classic Dying Light endgame progression system that extends characters beyond the main skill tree. Once players reach Level 15, all earned XP is converted into Legend XP. Higher difficulty settings and New Game+ tiers increase experience gains, meaning the more players challenge themselves, the faster they progress. Each Legend Level grants Legend Points that can be spent on passive upgrades, such as increased health, improved combat stats and enhanced Beast Mode performance. Beyond these headline features, the patch was driven mainly by community feedback. Over 200 parkour and environmental navigation issues originally discovered by players have now been fixed.
The developers have introduced three new Finishers with this Dying Light: The Beast patch: one for one-handed blunt weapons, one for two-handed blunt weapons, and one for two-handed slashing weapons. The new weekly Community Challenge is focused on Finishers:
- Goal #1: Execute 1,000,000 finishers
- Reward: Gutsbuster Car Skin
- Goal #2: Execute 2,500,000 finishers
- Reward: Rascal
Call of the Beast Week 9 runs from Thursday, November 27 at 4 PM CEST until Thursday, December 4 at 4 PM CET. As always, rewards will be distributed to your in-game stash at the end of the challenge.
Separate from that, every player who logs in between November 27 and December 2 will receive an exclusive in-game gift, the Bloody Bowie Knife. From November 27 to 30, there's also a limited-time Double XP event.
