The new Pro OC DDR5 is promised to reach high transfer speeds at ultra-low latency, which "reportedly" delivers significantly better gaming performance.
Crucial Debuts Pro OC DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory, Claiming Up To 125% Better Minimum FPS vs 5600 MT/s CL46
Popular memory and storage manufacturer, Crucial, has made some big claims on its recently launched Pro OC DDR5 memory, which aims to deliver enthusiast-gaming performance. Crucial announced that the DDR5 Pro OC can run at 6400 MT/s speed with an ultra-low latency of CL32, delivering true 10-nanosecond latency, which reportedly translates to incredibly better gaming performance, as shared in the slides.
Today’s AAA games are more immersive, fast paced, and demanding than ever. They push systems to their limits with real-time action, intense multitasking, and ultra-high frame rates,
Gamers need memory that can keep up. Crucial DDR5 Pro OC 6400 CL32 is designed for those who want to win on both performance and style. It helps players load games faster, react instantly, and stay ahead of the competition. It’s fast, reliable, and looks incredible inside your rig.
- Dinesh Bahal, Corporate VP and GM of Micron Commercial Products Group
Key features:
- Faster than ever: Up to 6400MT/s speed and CL32 latency means quicker reactions
and smoother gameplay: More than 14% faster than standard 5600 DRAM. 6 - Micron-powered performance: Backed by Micron’s trusted memory technology for
long-term reliability and energy efficiency. - Multitask like a pro: Perfect for gaming, livestreaming, 3D rendering and content
creation,7 making it ideal for custom builds or for anyone who uses data-intensive
applications like AI and machine learning.
The Pro OC DDR5 memory is released in a 32 GB (2x 16 GB DDR5) memory kit, but users can also buy a single 16 GB DDR5 memory module. Crucial says the new memory can deliver up to 25% better frame rates, but multiple factors should be considered before believing the claims. Crucial says that the test was conducted using Ryzen 7 9800X3D on an AMD X870 chipset motherboard, and the Pro OC DDR5-6400 kit was compared against a Crucial DDR5-5600 kit while EXPO was enabled.
The Crucial Pro OC DDR5 delivers up to 37.5% lower latency than the JEDEC standard DDR5, which in this case is a memory speed of 6000 MT/s at CL48. That said, the company also shared a slide showing that the Pro OC DDR5 at 6400 MT/s@CL32 was able to deliver up to 125% better minimum FPS, enabling smoother gaming performance in titles like Watch Dogs: Legion. Compared to a similarly clocked memory but at CL38, the minimum FPS were still 38% higher.
The Average FPS, Minimum FPS, and the Max FPS in the Watch Dogs, as well as in Red Dead Redemption II were in double digits. However, Crucial also says that games like Assassin's Creed (no mention of the installment), Cyberpunk 2077, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Dirt 5 also saw some performance improvement, but Crucial didn't reveal those numbers. Keep in mind that these numbers are from Crucial itself, and we need independent reviews to prove whether these are accurate or not.
Crucial Pro OC DDR5 uses a Diamond CNC-cut brand block on the aluminum alloy heatsink, and is available in both black and white colors. Apart from featuring great compatibility with AMD systems, the memory is also ideal for the Intel platform as well and it supports both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0. The Crucial Pro OC DDR5 will be available starting from today through popular retailers like Amazon, Newegg, and Microcenter at the following prices:
