Colorful Debuts RTX 50 Ultra Z Series RTX 5060 and 5070 Ti GPUs, Bringing ASUS GC-HPWR Connector, But Retains 12V-2x6 Connector

It's surprising that a GPU manufacturer could bring its own GPU lineup that brings an interface, only found on the motherboards from a different vendor. Colorful, a popular Chinese GPU maker, has introduced its latest RTX 50 lineup called "Ultra Z" Series, which brings a different approach to powering the graphics cards, and it's through ASUS motherboards.

As per the report, Colorful will launch RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 series graphics cards in this lineup, which will boast the detachable GC-HPWR power connector found on the ASUS BTF graphics cards. While ASUS has BTF graphics cards, as it already has BTF motherboards with the GC-HPWR interface, Colorful doesn't have such motherboards. Its Ultra Z lineup will, however, be compatible with ASUS BTF motherboards, but just to be on the safe side, these GPUs will also boast a dedicated GPU connector.

It's also interesting to see that the first RTX 5060 series to boast the GC-HPWR connector, and if the report is true, the GPU could be powered either by the connector or through the 8-pin PCIe connectors. At the moment, only RTX 5070 Ti Ultra Z OC has been listed on JD, which offers an additional 12V-2x6 connector as well. So, users will have the flexibility to choose between the two interfaces for powering their GPUs. But what if users plug in both? This should help in distributing some load, resulting in better connector temperatures.

With this approach, it may be possible to mitigate melting issues, but such cases are already rare on the RTX 5070 series. I think it will be best to utilize the GC-HPWR interface that can supply 600W from the PSU, as it essentially needs the 16-pin connection from the back of the PCB. Here, Colorful is offering a solution that won't just work on ASUS BTF motherboards, but can be used on regular motherboards as well. This is similar to ASUS BTF 2.5 GPUs, which boast both interfaces.
