Colorful Claims Its New Memory Low Latency And High Performance Modes Can Deliver 15% Higher FPS In Battlefield 6

The new memory optimization features apparently improve gaming performance on Ryzen 9000-based systems using Colorful's AM5 motherboards.

Colorful Intros "Low Latency" and "High Performance" Memory Modes for its 600 and 800 Series Motherboards

Chinese hardware maker, Colorful, has today introduced two new memory-related features for its AM5 motherboards, which can supposedly deliver superior performance in apps and games by reducing the memory latency. Colorful says that since Ryzen 9000 series CPUs have a high memory latency, the new Colorful motherboard memory features can reduce it to optimize performance.

Colorful released the "Low Latency" and "High Performance" modes on some of its 800-series motherboards, like Tomahawk B850M Super Black Blade, Colorfire B850M Meow, and CVN B850M ARK Frozen, but users with X870, B850, and B650 chipsets can also get the latest features by updating to the latest BIOS versions. Colorful says that by reducing the memory latency through BIOS, its motherboards can help deliver a noticeable boost in performance in various apps and games.

The Low Latency mode can be found in the Overclocking tab in BIOS -> Memory Settings -> Memory Module Resource -> and then users will need to select the EXPO1 preset to turn on Low Latency Mode under the "Memory Multiplier Configuration". Similarly, the High Performance mode should be available in BIOS, where "Tightest" mode should be selected to boost memory bandwidth and reduce latency further.

Colorful shows that with these settings, it was able to achieve 12 ns reduced memory latency, which resulted in 5 GB/s higher read and 4.5 GB/s of higher write speeds in AIDA64 while retaining the same 6000 MT/s of memory speed. In the gaming test, it found that the newer memory settings improved the average frame rates in Battlefield 6 from 146 FPS to 172 FPS, which is a solid 15% performance gain. Keep in mind that these are according to Colorful's internal testing, and we will need third-party benchmarks to prove if this is true.
