Buyer's remorse appears to be a perennial reality for the relatively few who chose to buy the new Apple iPhone Air, exacerbated by tons of negative coverage and the accompanying personal anecdotes that are now increasingly populating the disparate social media platforms.

Today, we bring to you the experience of an Apple iPhone Air owner who recently downgraded to an iPhone 14 Pro Max with zero regrets and a $500 cashback.

The Redditor is blown away by the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max's battery longevity, camera system, and zero lags, does not appear to have any regrets for abandoning the iPhone Air apart from losing the USB-C option

A Redditor, who goes by the username ContractPatient3637, recently shared his experience of downgrading to an iPhone 14 Pro Max on the r/iPhone14Pro thread.

The Redditor appears baffled by how smoothly the now-three-generations-old iPhone still operates:

"I did this a few days ago and honestly I enjoy this phone way more and the camera is better. I haven’t plugged it in in over 18 hours and I’m still on, best of all the weight makes it easier to use one handed. I even left the iPhone air subreddit and joined this, just wanted to post this because this is a great phone still in 2025. I haven’t seen any lag on ios26 either. Plus I’m sure I’m the only one in the world to go from an air -> to a 14 pro max willingly, and even COD mobile run smoothly it blows my mind. The only bad thing is I just now realized it didn’t come with usb c on the pro models, I could have sworn it started with the 14 pros."

As is evident from his experience reproduced above, the new owner of an iPhone 14 Pro Max is wowed by the fact that he hadn't plugged in his phone even once during the preceding 18 hours. This is understandable. After all, the biggest gripe with the iPhone Air is its miniscule battery - the smallest in the iPhone 17 lineup.

The Redditor is also amazed by how well the camera on the iPhone 14 Pro Max performs relative to the single-lens setup on the iPhone Air. But, the post author reserves his most astonished comments for how smoothly the iPhone 14 Pro Max still operates, despite being long in the tooth now by tech standards.

Of course, as we noted recently, given the chronically slow sales momentum of the iPhone Air, one that has apparently killed an entire genre of upcoming ultra-thin smartphones, Apple recently put out via Bloomberg's Mark Gurman that the device and its future iterations continue to retain utility for the tech giant as a testing ground for new technology and features, with internal sales expectations ranging between 6 percent and 8 percent of the total annual iPhone sales.
