As per a prominent leaker, the upcoming AMD processors will be compatible with both 32 MB and 64 MB BIOS motherboards.
Leaker Claims AMD Zen 6 Will Work on Both 64 MB and 32 MB BIOS Motherboards, Making the Existing 600 and 800 Lineup Compatible With the CPU Series
A few days ago, ASUS's new B850M AYM OC motherboard, which is designed for overclocking enthusiasts, revealed some crucial info about Zen 6. ASUS confirmed that this motherboard will support AMD's next-gen CPUs, aka processors based on the upcoming AMD Zen 6 architecture. This makes ASUS the first vendor to publicly confirm Zen 6's early support on the AM5 socket, but if you remember, the pic showed Zen 6 alongside "64 MB BIOS", which sparked a debate about whether the existing AM5 motherboards with 32 MB BIOS will support Zen 6 or not.
When we take in account previous reports, it seems like the existing AM5 motherboards should be compatible with Zen 6 as well, which is exactly what the popular leaker @9950Pro (HXL) reported on X. Since the report isn't official, take this information with a grain of salt. HXl reported that both 32 MB and 64 MB BIOS motherboards will be supported by Zen 6 in reply to Computer Base. This makes both the existing 600 and 800-series motherboards compatible with Zen 6.
When asked about whether we are going to see a drop in support for Zen 4 CPUs to make space for the Zen 6 Code in the 32 MB BIOS chip, HXL replied negatively. He says that it shouldn't happen again, which means the 32 MB BIOS chip is going to be sufficient to continue support for older AM5 processors. In comparison to AM4, which originally used 16 MB originally had a problem supporting all the older Zen processors, including Zen 1 and Zen + CPUs, to make room for newer ones such as Zen 2 and Zen 3.
According to the leaker, this shouldn't happen now with the AM5 platform, which means users can continue with their existing AM5 motherboards from both the 600 and 800 series to use Zen 6 CPUs later.
