Initial benchmarks of AMD's newly released Radeon RX 9070 "non-XT" surface online as the GPU gets tested on Call of Duty Black Ops 6, showing surprising performance.
AMD's First Set Of RX 9070 Benchmarks Indicate Performance Rivaling To NVIDIA's RTX 4080 Series, Without Optimal Driver Support
Despite AMD unveiling its first batch of RDNA 4 GPUs at the recent CES 2025 keynote, we still didn't get any insight into the performance of these SKUs, which was certainly surprising to see given that it has always been a tradition of AMD to compare its new offerings with rivaling counterparts. However, the IGN team actually managed to benchmark AMD's Radeon RX 9070 GPU at the company's CES 2025 booth, and props to them, we now have information about what kind of performance to expect with AMD's new budget mainstream card.
The GPU was tested on Call of Duty Black Ops 6 through the onboard benchmarking option, and according to initial results, the Radeon RX 9070 managed to deliver 99 FPS at 4K Extreme settings without using any of the upscaling technology, such as FSR 4. With this result, it is safe to conclude that the Radeon RX 9070 is in fierce competition with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4080 SKUs, despite it intending to rival NVIDIA's "70" class options, so this is definitely top-tier stuff by Team Red.
However, another interesting fact mentioned by IGN is that they saw many visual bugs and artifacts relating to issues persistent with Intel's Arc B580 GPU. This isn't something to worry about since the benchmarking environment probably had unrefined drivers and software support, which is why there were inconsistencies. Judging by the fact that if upscaling tech and RDNA 4-suited drivers were being used in testing the GPU out, we would've seen a massive rise in the "99 FPS" figure, but that is something to decide later on, once the review embargo lifts.
Diving a bit into the "rumored" specifications of AMD's Radeon RX 9070, the GPU is said to offer 16 GB of video memory, with a Navi 48 (4nm) die onboard. That's pretty much it for now, since Team Red has managed to keep details undercover. AMD will share more information on its RDNA 4 GPUs in the coming days.
