The B850 boards are becoming more affordable than ever and being an excellent choice for budget and mid-range builds, people are now adopting it more over B650.
AMD B850 Rises to Nearly 30% Market Share as the Average Selling Price Drops by 21% in South Korea
AMD's B850 chipset is the sweet spot for majority of PC builders and it's now being adopted at a much faster rate than ever. In the last 10 months, the B850 chipset motherboards have risen significantly in share in South Korea's DIY market, closing the gap with its predecessor, the B650, which has served as the most popular AM5 chipset.
According to the latest data by Danawa, the AMD B850 motherboards now enjoy 28.8% market share, while B650 retains its top position with 37.64% share. However, in the last 10 months, the B650 share has been dropping steadily, and in the last month alone, its share dropped by nearly 4%. Every month, the B850 climbs up and it appears that in the next 3-6 months, the B850 should be the top choice in South Korea.
Its increasing market share can be attributed to its slightly upgraded features over B650, but the major reason is its affordability. While B650 still sells for much lower with an ASP of 155,929 WON, the B850 boards have dropped by 21% in ASP this year and is now at just 263,285 WON. This is still 1.7X higher than the ASP of B650 motherboards, but a large section of PC builders are now adopting standard ATX form factor for the B850 while B650 is mostly popular with Micro-ATX form factor.
The Micro-ATX form-factor is still the most popular one, but now it is under 75% while the ATX form-factor enjoys a solid 21.46% share. That said, AMD's entry-level A520 chipset largely maintained its share around 15% this year, and even its ASP remained the same throughout the year.
Among all the vendors, ASUS is the top-priority with 37.64% of total market share and MSI comes second with 28.8% share. GIGABYTE saw a steep decline in share in the last two months, dropping from 20%+ to now 14.33%. Surprisingly, ASRock improved drastically, going from under 5% to now nearly 20% market share. What exactly happened here is unknown, but with the launch of ASRock's Challenger series B850 motherboards in the second half (and possibly discounted boards), the surge may have been driven by this.
