Today in Android: Essential Phone Receives Oreo 8.1 Update, OnePlus 3, 3T Get April Security Patch
The Essential phone has had its set of problems since its release, and thankfully, software updates were not on that otherwise long list. However, users had to wait a long time for the update, because of the company opting to skip Android Oreo 8.0 altogether and make the jump to Oreo 8.1, citing compatibility issues. There was an open beta for Oreo 8.1 launched for users some time ago, and now, the stable release is ready for download OTA.

It also allows for handling of gaming controllers, much to the delight of people who use gaming peripherals. Perhaps, the most significant change is Bluetooth 5.0 certification, which will allow users to enjoy twice the connection speed with Bluetooth devices, a higher range of connection, a lower power draw and support for lots of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. To install the update, navigate to the system settings and manually check for an update. You might have to wait a bit, as it is being rolled out incrementally.
