Following the huge controversy regarding loot boxes, EA and DICE decided to remove microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II, promising to continue listening to feedback to make things as balanced as possible in the future. Microtransactions have yet to be implemented again, but it seems like they may allow players to purchase something called Star Card Booster crates in the future.

A new video that’s been shared on YouTube by DylanRocket showcasing one of the game’s hidden menus reveals that one of the rewards for completing weekly faction challenges will be Star Card Booster crates. According to Reddit user kravguy, who revealed information correctly in the past, these crates will function similarly to the current loot crates, except some will have tiered contents. Experience and Credit boosters will also be coming at a later time.

The way the game has been built around microtransactions damages it considerably, as Christian noted in his review. Despite the issues, however, the game is still worth playing.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has the potential to be an amazing game, however, it is unlikely we’ll ever get to play the real game as it’s hidden beneath microtransactions. In an ideal world, EA would remove the Star Card system completely and replace it with something that doesn’t interfere with the gameplay. If you are on the fence, maybe wait a few weeks to see how EA deal with the progression system beforehand. That being said, even with Battlefront 2’s flaws I’d still say it’s worth playing.

Star Wars Battlefront II is now out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
