As underrated as it may be, Samsung’s virtual assistant Bixby is making its way to other Samsung products. According to a report, a new trademark registration in the European Union reveals that Samsung is planning to bring Bixby on TV as well. To recall, the AI-focused assistant premiered on the Galaxy S8, S8+, and the Galaxy Note 8 earlier this year. Some previous reports also hinted that Samsung has been planning to bring Bixby on smart speakers too.

While Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 users continue loving or hating the Bixby button, the company has been quite rigid about relaxing its remapping rules for it. But thankfully, the company did roll out an update that allows users to disable the button entirely. Samsung is now working towards integrating Bixby into other apps and services such as smart TVs.

Samsung has now filed a trademark for the tagline “Samsung Connected Life with Bixby” with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EQUIPO). In the filing, the company has mentioned “software for television to find the desired service and/or contents of television by recognition or user’s voice” in the goods and services section. Well, it seems like a perfect match to integrate Bixby Voice with TV.

Google Assistant on Android TV / Siri on Apple TV

Samsung’s plans are in line with what other companies have been doing with their virtual assistants. Google has integrated its Assistant with Android TV and Google Home while Apple has connected Siri to Apple TV and the upcoming HomePod speakers. We think that Bixby integration will make it easier for Samsung TV users to search for content and watch their favourite streams effortlessly. The current UI on Samsung TV or any other smart TV is not as smooth as we see on smartphones or tablets so the virtual assistant can ease out the task to search for content.

With CES (Consumer Electronic Show) round the corner, we can expect Samsung to make the announcement around that period.
