Prepare Your iPhone & iPad for iOS 10.3 Update – Here’s How [Update: Released]
iOS 10.3 is likely just around the corner. Therefore, it’s a good idea to prepare your iPhone and iPad right away for the big update.
Get Your iPhone & iPad in Shape for the Big iOS 10.3 Update
Having released an army of betas in the past few weeks, it’s highly likely that iOS 10.3 final would be released any time now. So, before that even happens, it’s best to prepare your device ahead of time so that everything goes forward as smoothly as possible.
Free Up Some Space – The Obvious
If you are planning to take the OTA route to install iOS 10.3, then make sure you have ample amount of space available on your iPhone and iPad. Make sure there is at least 2GB of free space for things to go smoothly as possible. In order to check how much free space you have on your device, simply navigate to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage.
Take a Backup of Everything
Take a backup of everything either using iTunes or iCloud. While the likelihood of something going wrong is low, it’s a good idea to be on the safe side of the fence at all times.
Make a List of Your Apps
If you are taking the backup route, then this is not necessary. But in case something does go wrong, you are going to be installing all your apps and games from scratch. So in order to save yourself from a bunch of trouble, create a list of apps which you currently have installed on your device.
Keep Your Charger Ready
The download and installation process won’t move forward if your device’s battery is below 50%. But things will move forward if it is plugged into a power outlet. Hence make sure your iPhone or iPad’s USB cable and power adapter is at hand before going ahead with the installation.
Install iTunes and Set Up the Drivers
If you are going to update to iOS 10.3 using iTunes, then it’s best to have the software installed on your computer beforehand (apple.com/itunes). Furthermore, make sure you connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer at least once so that the proper drivers are installed over the air. On a Mac, you don’t have to worry about this step at all.
Sit Back & Relax
Just sit back, relax and wait for the update to know on your door. Although iOS 10.3 is an incremental update, but given it brings the new APFS (Apple File System) to iPhone and iPad, it’s best to treat it as a major update to iOS 10.x itself.
