OnePlus 6 to Feature Cat.16 LTE Modem to Pass the Gigabit LTE Speed Barrier [Rumor]

OnePlus 6 has been on the radar since quite some time, thanks to its alleged plans of incorporating the iPhone X notch design. Now, there is a new rumor regarding the LTE speeds it will be able to garner. Apparently, OnePlus 6 will offer super-fast Cat.16 Gigabit LTE connectivity, which could help the device achieve speeds of up to 1,000Mbps, or 1Gbps.

OnePlus 6 Will Be Able to Achieve This Landmark Most Likely Thanks to the Snapdragon 845

The device will able to achieve this amazing data throughput because of the LTE modem embedded in the Snapdragon 845 chipset the device will be powered by. The phone will offer uplink speeds of 150Mbps and downlinks of 1.2Gbps. Right now, the Snapdragon 845 has one of the fastest modems out there.

OnePlus 6 and 6T Will No Longer Receive Android Updates as Company Officially Ends Support

This will be the first time a OnePlus device will have such a high-speed modem. The OnePlus 5 and 5T offer support for Cat.12 LTE connectivity and provide downlinks speeds of around 600Mbps. Before that, the OnePlus 3 and 3T supported Cat.6 LTE with downlink speeds of 300Mbps.

If your region and carrier provide 4G LTE coverage with higher than average speeds, the OnePlus 6 would be your best bet to get the most out of and establish speedy uplink and downlink connections to the network. Even though a data throughput of 1Gbps is the lowest minimum 5G speed, OnePlus owners will still be able to enjoy ultra-fast LTE connectivity.

The OnePlus 6 will probably be launched in mid-2018, as the OnePlus 5 was released in June 2017. The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC. It is also possible that the upcoming flagship becomes the first device to get support for Qi wireless charging.
