Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM 7.12.28 Brings iPhone X-like Gestures To Redmi 5, Mi MIX 2 & Others
Apple sparked a new trend by eliminating the home button on its iPhone X smartphone. The company brought gesture-based controls in place of a home button. Now, Xiaomi is trying to bring some of these gestures to its existing full-screen smartphones like the Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, Redmi 5, and the Redmi 5 Plus with the latest MIUI 9 global beta ROM 7.12.28.
Xiaomi is trying to bring the iPhone-X influenced gesture control to its smartphones to make better use of their big screens by reducing the dependability on the Home button for various functions. By doing so, the company seems to be making way for its upcoming phones that might ditch the Home button entirely in favour of the clean all-screen design.
Different iPhone X-like gestures included in the latest MIUI 9 Global Beta Update
According to a post on MIUI Forum by a MIUI team member PatrickXi, the MIUI 9 global beta ROM 7.12.28 includes full display gestures for the Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, Redmi 5, and the Redmi 5 Plus smartphones. With the inclusion of these new gestures, users will be able to swipe up from the bottom of any screen to go back to the Home screen. Besides, by swiping from the bottom and then holding for a second will bring them to the "Recent" tab. Also, users will be able to switch between apps by swiping left or right from the screen to the middle point. All these gestures are identical to the ones present on the iPhone X.
Not just the iPhone X-like gestures, the latest version of the MIUI 9 global beta 7.12.28 also bring fixes for existing bugs such as app vault force closing and restoration of Top Sites tab automatically in the native Mi browser.
Xiaomi recently started rolling out MIUI 9 global stable ROM to its plethora of devices such as the Mi Max, Mi Max 2, Mi Mix 2, Mi 6, Mi 5, Mi 5s Plus, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi Note 4, and the Redmi 4.
