Apple has released iTunes 12.6 for both Windows and macOS. Here's what the new update packs within its confines.
iTunes 12.6 Introduces New 'Rent Once, Watch Anywhere' Feature
Apple's music and iOS device management software, iTunes, has received a new update today, bringing it up to version 12.6. What's new in this update, you ask? Well, it now allows you to rent a movie on your desktop and you can then watch it anywhere you like as long as that device is running iOS 10.3 or tvOS 10.2. This is a huge deal since such a thing was not possible before, and the user was forced to watch a movie rental on just a single device. With the latest update, you can flint between devices with ease as long as you are within the rental time period, of course.
For Mac users, the new iTunes 12.6 update is available to download straight from the Mac App Store. Simply launch Apple's app hub and then click on the Updates tab. Over here you will be presented with the latest update. Simply tap on the Update button next to it and you are good to go.
Windows users on the other hand can download the new update using the Apple Software Update tool. Simply launch it and click on 'Install' when prompted with the new update.
Apart from the rental associated feature, the iTunes 12.6 update brings bug fixes and performance related enhancements to the table as well. This alone is worthy enough of an update if you are asking me.
The update also signals towards the fact that iOS 10.3 and tvOS 10.2 are on the verge of release. So it's a good idea to make necessary preparations beforehand on your devices if you want the upgrade to go through as smoothly as possible. The best thing to take care of in advance is free space, which is extremely necessary for the update to move forward. Last but not the least, if you have time, make sure you have backed up everything to a secure location. It's better to be safe than sorry.
In the meantime, make sure your copy of iTunes installed on your PC or Mac is up to date.
Update: Apple has released a revised version of iTunes 12.6. The update is available to download right away. It removes a 'Show on Profile Page' toggle switch which was part of the earlier update.
