The newest update VRUAME7, dropped on July 9, for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 patched up the previous root and bypass exploits. While many were disgruntled by the update, the XDA members DooMLoRD and PWM978, with the help of others, have shared a method to root your Galaxy S4 to VRUAME7.
This solution requires you to use a microSD card, a terminal emulator app on your smartphone, and a couple of files to root your Galaxy S4. This method also doesn't wipe the smart phone, so all good so far!
Prerequisites to root Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4:
- Create a backup of all important data in your Galaxy device.
- Download and install USB drivers for Galaxy S4 in your computer.
- Enable USB debugging option by pressing Menu > Settings > Applications. Navigate and tap on Developer Options to ensure that USB Debugging is enabled.
- Ensure that your SGS4 carries more than 70% of charge.
How to root Verizon Galaxy S4:
Required files: download and install the Android Terminal Emulator app on your SGS4. Also, download and install Samsung USB driver from here. Finally download and extract the root exploit package on your computer from here.
- Insert a microSD card in your Galaxy S4 and ensure that it's formatted as exFAT - not FAT32. If you have a 64GB microSD card, from your phone's storage settings you can directly format it as exFAT; use the computer otherwise.
- Once formatted as exFAT, move all the files and folders from Root Exploit package directly to the root of your microSD.
- Now, open the Android Terminal Emulator app on your Verizon S4 and run the following commands one after the other - commands are case-sensitive.
- cd /mnt/extSdCard
- ./pwn *after running this command you will see $ change to #; this means you have got the root access.
- ./script.sh
- After running the commands close Terminal app and check Play Store for any SuperSU updates.
- If there are any updates, open SuperSU app and let it update itself to the latest.
- Reboot your device.
- When done, use any root checker app to verify if you are able to access the root properly.
Ahhsome! We hope that your Samsung Galaxy S4 is now fully rooted on the stock VRUAME7 build. Do not update your S4 via OTA to avoid losing this root.
